{Tokusatsu Thursday #4-aPC} Futari wa PreCure: Episode 4

My name is Taffryne, shoppekeeper of Midnight on Memory Lane, and it is my absolute delight to welcome you to the aPC-type post for this week's gathering of Tokusatsu Thursday!

As the title of this post says, we're going to be talking about the fourth episode of the Toei Animation series, Futari wa PreCure.

I humbly present my thoughts for your enjoyment and consideration. Accordingly, please mind that there will be spoilers ahead!

Episode 4
Recollection
- Nagisa, Honoka, and their class go on their social studies field trip to the Art Museum
- King Jyaku tells Pisard he's on his last chance to suceed before he gets killed...the other bad guys tease him about his failure
- Mepple continues to not handle the whole "being quiet in the daytimme" well because he misses his Mipple (oh poor baby)
- Nagisa breaks the very fragile statue while telling the others not to damage the very fragile statue
- The Piccarini painting in the museum from 1904 apparently depicts Mipple's arrival to earth (WHAT)
- Pisard turns everyone on the back-to-school bus and museum into stone statues, but conveniently doesn't get Nagisa or Honoka (they left to grab their friend, Mayu, who gets temporarily trapped in a painting)
- Zakenna's plan of attack this time was to make the figures in the paintings come to life (honestly, pretty good strategy to have a variety of attack types)
I'm sorry, what??? Mepple left right after Mipple did but because of wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey things he managed to take 100 years to find her??? I-, what??? Wait, but if it's because they came from a different dimension, then how does what work for Pisard and the bad guys??? Do they have different rules? Has he just been lucky that his attacks haven't happened centuries apart? Is it because they travel to where the Prism Stones are? ALSO WAIT A MINUTE!!! HOW ARE THEIR EARTH FORMS THE SHAPE OF FLIP PHONES IF THOSE DIDN'T EXIST FOR ANOTHER 100 YEARS?!?!? Mepple, Mipple, EXPLAIN???
Zakenna, Pisard, can we talk a second? Pisard, *since when could you turn people into stone(??? Have you been able to do that this whole time? My dude, why did you not do this earlier? I get that the plot demands you to lose, but, I feel like this is an oversight on your part. As for the living-statue-tornado, THAT was wickedly brilliant! They have to get through the statues to get to you, but to get through the statues they'd end up harming people. A classic and perfect dilemma, truly. What's a hero to do when you've brought their morals and desire to NOT kill people into the equation.
Zakenna, you got summoned with the power to bring the paintings to life. At first, not gonna lie, I was a little concerned. The knights with swords was a good pick, but the elephant? I'm not saying that elephants can't do some damage (they absolutely can), but it wouldn't be my first pick. The sea monster and flood though? That was cool!
Honestly, I don't quite understand how they were able to do their marble screw without hurting everyone; but, I'll trust the magic of the PreCures!
I appreciate the detail of the statue being permanently damaged and Mayu's pencil being left in the painting. I think it's really fun when series don't make everything reset to zero just because the heroes save the day. Sometimes it makes sense, but other times I believe that you should respect the consequences. I suppose that's also just the sentimental in me. One of the only things we can do in our lives is to leave marks in the places we've gone. Whether it's physically altering something, the possessions that get passed down, or merely the emotions we cause in people. It all contributes to our "memory", ya know? Now, we shouldn't deface priceless artifacts or famous art pieces over it (amongst other things), so please don't take it that way. I just wanted to tip my hat to the inclusion.
Episode 5 Preview
Personally, I'm not a fan of takoyaki (not a seafood person), but I AM a fan of seeing the villains become desperate in their final efforts, so hehe...
