{Tokusatsu Thursday #2-aPC} Futari wa Precure: Episode 2
Hello, Internet, and good mornight to you all!
My name is Taffryne, shoppekeeper of Midnight on Memory Lane, and it is my absolute delight to welcome you to the (thankfully singular) delayed post from last week's Tokusatsu Thursday.
'Tis a pleasure, 'tis a pleasure indeed.
As the title of this post says, we're going to be talking about the second episode of the Toei Animation tokusatsu anime, Futari wa Precure. I humbly present my thoughts for your enjoyment and consideration. Accordingly, please mind that there will be spoilers ahead!

Episode 2
Recollection
- Honoka is elected class president and made an unstable candy machine that breaks
- Jyaku-King is introduced (he's the big bad overlord character and his goal is to get all seven Prism Stones so he can break free, rule the universe, and be immortal (they have five of them now)
- Mipple and Mepple use cards of the Field of Light (the magic flower kingdom they lived in before the Dotsuku Zone attacked) residents to handle their needs while stuck in phone-mode (it's so 2000s, I swear)
- Nagisa still has a massive crush on Fujimura
- Mipple is actually the Princess from the Field of Light and Mepple is her Chosen Guardian (appointed by the Queen to flee and protect the prism stones)
- Pisard calls upon Zakenna to possess a vacuum cleaner and steal the electricity from the city...the vacuum monster is adorable
- Nagisa and Honoka transform, save the elevator that Pisard cuts the cords for, and defeat Zakenna who turns back to Gomenna-form
- Nagisa and Honoka discover their rainbow shield ability
Right off the bat for this post, I wanna just talk about how absolutely adorable Vacuum Zakenna is. He's like a little cursed dinosaur amalgamation cause the handle head looks like a Parasaurolophus but the mouth is just a little wide bit and then he's got that big Brachiosaurus neck but an arguably Plesiosaur/Lioplurodon body. I wanna just pet him and feed him all the volts and watts he could ask for. His functionality is also like Rotom. He just jumps into whatever he can, tries to make it work, and then he even apologizes when he fails! Such a precious little demon energy thing.
With the reveal that Mepple is her Chosen Guardian/Knight and Mipple is the Princess, honestly it makes the outfit designs for Cure White and Cure Black even more sensible (if you base it off standard tropes for those roles). Cure White's outfit is this frilly dress with a head bow and just has a "princesss" vibe to it. Cure Black's is much more adpt for combat and kinda mimick's a chestplate pattern with her top. A question I have though...why are they all of a sudden so naturally calling each other "White" and "Black" when they've transformed? It could be an influence of the transformation itself, but this is only the second time they've done this AND they're schoolmates. Granted, they've been "naturally" crashing into their abilities and phrases, too, so it's not a big deal. Just a curiosity.
Jyaku-King is...I'll say interesting for now. He looks massive. He's standing on top of what I think is a volcano. He's got chains holding him captive, presumably. How exactly did he get like this? I could assume that he attacked the Field of Light prior and was imprisoned then, but then how the heck was he able to get followers like Pisard and regain power? Shouldn't that have been taken care of the first time? Big yikes on the whole "we have five of the seven things we need already"; that's not the best starting point for our Cures. I'm going to hazard a guess and assume that the crystal-looking necklace Pisard is wearing is probably one of those Prism Stones, but don't quote me on that yet until it's confirmed.
For my ending notes, Mepple and Mipple are still so, so adorable, mepo. I would save the world for them, mipo. Also, congratulations, Pisard. You look more like Labyrinth David Bowie in your disguised form.
Maybe this is a stretch, but I wonder if Nagisa's crush on Fujimura is gonna turn into a bigger plot point? I mean so in the sense that it won't just be the whole "I have a crush/partner, but I have to hide my hero identity from them", but that there will actually be a story-related significance. Maybe he's actually a personified Prism Stone or maybe he's a big-bad in disguise? Maybe I've just experienced too many different plot-styles at this point, so my mind runs wild with possibilities...
Thanks for Reading!
I hope you've been able to watch and enjoy the story for yourself! If you haven't, that's okay too! My thoughts are here to keep you updated and entertained in the meantime.
This caps off this post, so off into the nighttime we go in preparation for the next ones publishing very shortly!
