Idol I: Episode 9 {Watch Party Wednesday #7-KD}

My name is Taffryne, shoppekeeper of Midnight on Memory Lane, and it is my absolute delight to welcome you to the KD-type post for this week's gathering of Watch Party Wednesday!

As the title of this post says, we're going to be talking about the ninth episode of the K-drama, Idol I.
I humbly present my thoughts for your enjoyment and consideration. Accordingly, please mind that there will be spoilers ahead!

Episode 9
Recollection
- Mr. CEO reveals that Woo-seong cut the secret solo-deal for a messed up variety of reasons (stick it to Mr. CEO for delaying their comeback album, stop La-ik from degrading under the demanding solo-work schedule, partly because the other company manipulated and blackmailed him into fully agreeing...)
- Woo-seong's secret dealing with the other entertainment company alongside the Mom signing a contract caused HUGE legal liability for him, La-ik, and the group which in turn caused issues and upset with Mr. CEO
- Mr. CEO regrets threatening Woo-seong with the legal battle because he only meant to scare him out of anger, keep everything out of the public eye, and re-sign the group
- La-ik calls out Mr. CEO for being calculating and trying to cover his own ass after Woo-seong's death and affirms that he didn't kill Woo-seong nor did he know anything about the secret deal
- La-ik feels guilt about not seeing how much Woo-seong was struggling with and hiding beneath his calm leader persona
- Mr. Prosecutor is throwing a tantrum because his office wants him to transfer the case to someone else, but his corrupt father wants him to indict La-ik anyway
- Hye-joo gets La-ik to meet with her one last time and tries to convince him to run away with her to the States; he refuses and wants to rebuild his life in South Korea
- Mr. Informant, La-ik, and Se-na eat fried chicken together; Yet, only Mr. Informant uses the time to petty-fight with La-ik over Se-na's affection and how much he knows about Se-na and how La-ik shouldn't think her help is an admission of feelings
- La-ik takes Se-na to his old school and the restaurant he ate at everyday so he can show her the last time he was "ordinary"
- Se-na takes him to the aquarium in return and gives him a day to truly just be a "passerby"
- Se-na accidentally says she likes La-ik but tries to backtrack it
- La-ik takes it further an actually confesses that he likes Se-na
AND THEN IT ENDS THERE!!!
"But the problem is, I'm not sure I can end it with just being grateful. Not like you" (La-ik, 21:16)
The red-hot pettiness over a fried chicken lunch!!! The look of utter offence!!! My word these two, hehe. While I'm all for a good battle of affections within the safe-space of fictional dramas...I do really hope that this doesn't blow-up into a massive problem or compromises Se-na and Mr. Informant's sibling-esque relationship. I fear that it will, but I suppose we'll have to keep watching to find out, no?
The cook recognizing La-ik at his store and having the original Gold Boys promo card was so sweet!!! Ahhh, the sentimentalityyy!!! I'm happy that he and Se-na are able to have these wholesome and vulnerable moments together as he's processing everything. Old school grounds, childhood restaurant, his first time at an aquarium, the return to the place where it all started...it's just so precious. No way that they were actually hidden behind the jellyfish tank of all things, though. That's probably one of the worst hiding places in an aquarium.
T/N: For anyone curious, I LOVE aquariums. The dark lights with the bright tanks and the vibrancy of sea life...agh, it just gets me. I had a marine biology and prehistoric marine biology phase that I never truly grew out of, so...ehe.
Mr. Prosecutor, GIVE IT A BREAK!!! My god, man. You have so much evidence pointing to him NOT being the murderer and maybe even being FRAMED for it!!! Set your stupid, awful, corrupted pride aside and just...Oh, I don't know, actually do your job in a just way???.
Finally, HYE-JOO, ARE YOU-ARE YOU MOVING ON??? THANK THE HEAVENS!!! I'm a little bit scared because angrily crumpling up the sweet photo after being rejected isn't exactly the most reassuring thing, but...please, girlie, heal. Go away and heal.
